Second Harvest rakes in Pillsbury dough

The Pillsbury Co. has donated 9,000 cases of bread and cake mixes to Second Harvest member food banks in five cities around the country.

The recipient food banks are located in Jackson, Miss., Miami, Nashville, New Orleans and San Francisco.

The food donation is part of Second Harvest's Production Alliance program. Production Alliance members donate "first-line" food products instead of the usual contributions of surplus, discontinued or slightly damaged items.

Minneapolis-based Pillsbury was the first Production Alliance company. The food company has contributed more than 90 million pounds of food items to Second Harvest since 1980.

Second Harvest, the nation's largest nonprofit hunger-relief organization, has a network of 186 regional food banks in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Member food banks distribute more than one billion pounds of food and grocery products annually.
