The Chicago Bulls basketball team has donated $3.5 million to the Chicago public school system to fund an afterschool Bulls Scholars Program in each of the city's 25 middle schools.
The money will be distributed over three years to the Children First Fund, the Chicago Public Schools foundation.
The grant will pay for teacher salaries, materials and five computers per school. The program will offer up to 40 students per school after-hours instruction in algebra and English.
The team's philanthropic arm, CharitaBulls, was created in 1987.
It has donated more than $11 million to Chicago-based nonprofit and community groups, mostly for youth programs.
