Sons of Mars candy company founder set up Yale endowment

The sons of billionaire Forrest Mars Sr. have donated $2 million to Yale University to set up the Forrest Mars Sr. Visiting Professorship in Ethics, Politics and Economics, Reuters reports.

Mars Sr., the founder of the company that produces Mars bars, Snickers and M&Ms;, was worth an estimated $4 billion when he died in July at age 95, according to Reuters. He graduated from Yale in 1928.

In making the gift, Forrest E. Mars Jr. and John F. Mars say they wanted "to establish a lasting tribute to our father's memory that will also reflect his dedication to Yale."

Forrest Mars Jr. says the gift was made in ethics, politics and economics due to his father's interest in those fields. Reuters reports that up to four courses per year on ethical business practices will be taught by visiting professors at Yale.

Mars Sr. was listed by Forbes magazine as the 30th richest man in the U.S. The company he founded is the second-largest candy company in the nation.
