The 2008 YouthActionNet Global Fellows are a group of outstanding young social entrepreneurs who are distinguished by their innovative approaches to addressing urgent social and environmental needs. This year's recipients include a 20-year-old in Pakistan who is working to put an end to the practice of honor killing in her community and a 29-year-old in Brazil who creates jobs through transforming non-recyclable waste into works of art.

Legislative Build 2008 Has Lawmakers 'Working' in Their Districts

On Tues., Aug. 19, legislators from across Michigan will pound hammers, wield paint brushes or plant trees as part of Legislative Build 2008 Celebration Day. The event is the culmination of a summer-long partnership between legislators and an array of Michigan community groups who invited legislators to work on neighborhood improvement projects in or near their district.

Hispanics and Health Care in the US: Access, Information and Knowledge

More than one-fourth of Hispanic adults in the U.S. lack a usual health care provider, and a similar proportion report obtaining no health care information from medical personnel in the past year. At the same time, more than eight in ten report receiving health information from media sources, such as television and radio, according to a Pew Hispanic Center survey of Latino adults, conducted in conjunction with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

NALAC Receives $475,000 From the Ford Foundation

New York Life Foundation Grants $400,000 to New Visions for Public Schools

New Visions For Public Schools announced that it was awarded a two-year, $400,000 grant from the New York Life Foundation to launch the Campaign for College and Career Readiness initiative in New York City’s five boroughs. The initiative will provide at least 1,000 parents and 50 school personnel with critical information to ensure that over 7,000 ninth graders are on track for graduation and have the essential skills to be college-ready.
