Self-Help is looking for a Director of Residential Development. This person will coordinate an existing affordable home ownership project in Durham, consisting of rehabilitation and new construction of single family houses. Major responsibilities include budgeting and financial oversight of project, raising and monitoring public and private project subsidy, supervision of project construction and marketing staff, and acquisition of additional properties. Provide technical assistance on affordable housing projects to Self-Help partner organizations, particularly with regard to project finance and strategic planning. Future responsibilities may include additional Self-Help affordable home ownership development in North Carolina and/or expansion of current project in Durham.
The ideal candidate will have direct affordable housing development, project management and supervisory experience. Spreadsheet expertise and excellent financial skills are critical, in addition to strong verbal and written communication facilities. The candidate should be an outgoing and flexible self-starter, able to initiate new projects and coordinate numerous activities with minimum supervision. Sensitivity to issues of low-wealth homebuyers and a desire to work in a racially and socially diverse organization are essential. Teamwork and an interest in the professional development of co-workers are important Self-Help values. Minimum of an undergraduate degree and 3-5 years related professional experience; graduate degree in a related field preferred. Spanish language skills are a plus.
