Academic Vice President and Provost

Hostos Community College
South Bronx, NY

Hostos Community College located in the South Bronx, seeks a Provost responsible for providing academic and strategic leadership, direction, and policy formulation of all academic divisions/programs, and also supervises Instructional Support Services, Academic Skills, Institutional Research, and the Library. He/She is actively engaged in academic and budget planning; faculty recruitment; development evaluation, and retention; and the promotion of student learning, effective teaching, scholarly work and service, all within the context of a strong system of shared governance.

In collaboration with the academic deans and department chairs/coordinators, the Provost is expected to formulate and articulate programs and identify opportunities for academic collaboration within the college, within the CUNY system, and with other institutional entities outside of CUNY in the public and private sectors. The Provost will lead the academic effort to engender sensitivity to the understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity in the curriculum. He/She will work collaboratively with the President of the college, along with the vice presidents for Student Developoment and Enrollment Management for Finance and Administration in responding to external regulatory agencies to promote understanding of and support for the college.

Qualifications: An earned doctorate and credentials that would merit appointment as a full professor in an academic department are preferred. At least eight (8)years of college-level experience in teaching and administration, preferable in an urban, multicultural, public institution of higher education. The successful candidate will posses knowledge and experience in second language acquisition and program design. Fluency in more than one language is desirable.

SALARY: This is an Executive Compensation Plan position; salary and benefits are competitive. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
