California girls make a difference by selling off Beanie Babies

Two California sisters are determined to make a difference on national Make A Difference Day Oct. 24 by selling their Beanie Baby collection and donating the money to charity, the Contra Costa Times of Contra Costa (Calif.) reports.

The sisters, 10-year-old Chi Nguyen and her 16-year-old sister, Truc, are determined to raise at least $200 by the end of this month to benefit VNHelp, a nonprofit group that aids families in Vietnam.

Their parents both fled Vietnam 27 years ago. The family has prospered since coming to the U.S., but their parents have emphasized how hard it is for the friends and family left behind in their home country.

In response, Chi and Truc, who are both prize-winning musicians, have donated winnings to VNHelp and are selling homemade almond toffee in their neighborhood of San Ramon.

The sisters will hold a garage sale on Oct. 24 to sell the 40-item Beanie Baby collection and their toffee, with the cash going to the relief organization.
