Tech Funding: Elements of a technology plan

Tech Funding From Joe Matuzak:

1. How technology will benefit the nonprofit's mission and clients, including goals to be completed over the next 3-5 years.
2. How technology will enhance the delivery of programs and services.
3. How technology will make operations and administration more efficient.
4. How Internet and/or network connectivity can help the organization.
5. Staff training and development needed to implement plan.
6. Equipment needs

  • What do you have?
  • What new equipment will you get?
  • How to upgrade existing equipment and get rid of obsolete equipment.
  • Lay out maintenance schedule for new and existing equipment.
    7. Who will be responsible for researching and implementing plan? Who, if anyone, does the organization need to hire to implement and support plan?
    8. Put together a timeline for implementation, including time for pilot tests of the new systems.
    9. How to implement change in the organization.
    10. Put together a budget, with recent price quotes and revenue sources.

    From Denise Joines:

    1. A representation of the current technology.
    2. A justification for change

  • What sorts of technology needs are there? What can the organization not do now?
  • What opportunities can be made available through technological change?
    3. Recommended pathway for change
  • Specifics about the computer and other equipment needed, such as the amount of RAM.
  • Blueprint for moving technology around. In other words, unless everything of a certain kind is being replaced, who can use the older technology and still have it be an improvement over the equipment they're using now.
    4. A plan on how to implement the change, with costs and needs spelled out (including consultant costs, if needed).
    5. A plan for training staff members.
    6. Ideas about how to use the new technology and newly trained staff.
