Yahoo! lines up celebs for online Kosovo benefit

The Yahoo! Auctions Internet site has gathered a group of celebrities to contribute items to be auctioned for Kosovo refugee relief efforts.

Proceeds from the auction will go to the American Red Cross, which says it needs $1 million a week to carry out its work helping Kosovo refugees.

The Kosovo Charity Auctions site is offering a range of items such as autographed books and film and sports memorabilia.

"Since we began the Kosovo charity auctions a week ago, there has been an immediate outpouring of support, and through Yahoo! Auctions we can help the refugees in a way that was never before possible," says David Filo, the Internet firm's cofounder and "chief Yahoo."

Contributions also may be made directly to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, c/o Internet Giving, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C., 20013 or by calling (800) HELP-NOW (435-7669) for English-language donors, or (800) 257-7575 (Spanish).

Internet users can make a secure online credit card contribution by visiting http://www.redcross.org.
