From the Dallas Morning News
Patrons of the Dallas Art Museum raised a record $835,000 during this year's Beaux Arts fundraiser. The money will go toward the purchase of Pablo Picasso's "Bottle of Port and Glass," which now hangs in the museum, the Dallas Morning News reports.
The museum's acquisition of the Picasso work is in response to a matching fund challenge by Dallas art patron Margaret McDermott and the Eugene and Margaret McDermott Art Fund Inc.
Museum patrons enjoyed the fundraiser, the theme of which was "A Walk Through English Gardens." It featured a re-creation of an authentic English garden during the time when Dallas was suffering a massive heat wave. Net profits from this year's event totaled $100,000 more than last year, the paper reports.
The Dallas museum was founded in 1903 and features major collections of ancient American, African and Indonesian art, as well as contemporary American art.
