Eleven Detroit children's charities will share a total of $5.25 million raised at the North American International Auto Show 2000's 12th annual Charity Preview, the Auto Channel reports.
The money was raised through ticket sales to the Jan. 14 black-tie event. A total of 17,500 tickets were sold at $300 each.
The money will go Detroit-area charities including Barat Child and Family Services, Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Boys Hope-Girls Hope of Detroit, The Children's Center, Children's Services of Northeast Guidance Center, The Detroit Institute for Children, Easter Seal Society of Southeast Michigan, Judson Center, March of Dimes and the Detroit Police Athletic League.
The newly created Detroit Auto Dealers Association Charitable Foundation also received part of the funds, which it will distribute to five other charities. The foundation was established in 1998 by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association with a $50,000 gift to serve as the grantmaking body of the organization.
During the Charity Preview -- held at Detroit's Cobo Center -- a check was presented to the eleven charities. The event has raised more than $20 million for children's charities since its launch in 1976.
The North American International Auto Show is sponsored by the NAIAS LLC, an member of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association, the Auto Channel reports.
