From the San Francisco Chronicle
A San Francisco nonprofit is putting its fundraising hopes on a diverse group of musicians, releasing a compact disc to raise both money and awareness for its cause, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
"Milkshake", a compilation of music by 15 bands, has been released to benefit the Harvey Milk Institute. All the proceeds from the initial pressing of 1,000 CDs will go directly to the institute.
The 501(c)(3) nonprofit institute is named after Harvey Milk, San Francisco's first gay supervisor, who was assassinated along with Mayor George Moscone in 1978. The institute offers courses relating to sexual identity, race, class, gender and cultural issues.
The "Milkshake" CD features a number of Bay Area bands, including Pansy Division and Red House Painters. The CD also features the single "Homophobia," by Chumbawamba. The song is a hit single in Britain.
