McCartney donates money for alternative breast cancer treatments

Linda & Paul McCartney Former-Beatle Paul McCartney is making donations to two U.S. medical centers studying breast cancer, Reuters reports. Although the exact amount donated was not indicated, a source at McCartney's office say the combined gifts are "in excess of $2 million."

The gifts are in memory of McCartney's wife, Linda, who died of the disease in April 1998. The money will be divided between two hospitals that treated her -- the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and the Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson.

McCartney, an animal rights activist, says the money is being given with the understanding it will not be used for animal testing.

McCartney says he wants researchers to look into the possibilities of using alternative methods of treatment, such as botanical medicine and holistic therapy, Reuters reports.
